Important information about "Teacup" Yorkshire Terriers and Pomeranians!
There is no such thing as a Teacup Yorkshire Terrier or Pomeranian. Teacup is a term only used by backyard breeders and puppy mills.
All Yorkshire Terriers and Pomeranians bred to their breed standards are under 7lbs. Most breeders prefer to breed Yorkies and Poms between 4lbs and 7lbs.
Occasionally, a reputable breeder may have a puppy that is smaller than 4lbs, which is rare. Most of the time, puppies that are under 4lbs have many health problems which cause them to be a smaller size.
However, when a reputable breeder has one of these smaller puppies, they are usually healthy. These tiny Yorkies and Poms need special homes and are not suitable for homes with small children.
The opposite can also happen. Occasionally a breeder may get a Yorkie or Pom puppy that will grow to be over 7lbs. That puppy may not be a show dog but will make a wonderful companion and a great family pet.
